Schwarz appliance with Crozat clasps
The Schwarz appliance with Crozat clasps is a custom-made, single-arch removable orthodontic appliance for the upper or lower dental arch. The Crozat clasps provide appliance retention and are individually adapted to the conditions reproduced on the working model.
At KarDent, each appliance is manufactured according to the clinician’s prescription using physical models, impressions or intraoral scans. The screw type, wire configuration and extent of the acrylic baseplate are adapted to the submitted design.
Appliance design
The appliance is based on an individually formed acrylic baseplate. Depending on the prescription, its design may incorporate:
- Crozat clasps,
- an orthodontic screw,
- a labial bow,
- springs and other active components,
- additional wire elements,
- modifications to the acrylic baseplate.
The clasps are individually formed and embedded in the acrylic baseplate according to the prescribed configuration. Their number and position depend on the appliance design specified by the clinician.
Screw and active components
The appliance may incorporate a standard, sector, fan-type or multidirectional screw. The screw type, position and direction of activation should be clearly specified in the prescription.
Springs, bows and other active wire components may also be included. Each element is individually formed on the working model and integrated into the acrylic baseplate.
Upper or lower arch
The appliance is manufactured separately for the upper or lower dental arch. The extent of the acrylic baseplate, labial bow configuration, screw position and clasp arrangement are adapted to the submitted documentation.
The treating clinician determines the appliance design, activation protocol and instructions for use. KarDent is responsible for manufacturing the appliance in accordance with the prescription.
Manufacture based on models or scans
The Schwarz appliance with Crozat clasps may be manufactured from a physical model supplied to the laboratory, an impression or an intraoral scan. In a digital workflow, the working model is produced using 3D printing technology.
The prescription should specify the dental arch, screw type, configuration of the acrylic cuts, clasp arrangement and any additional design components.
